Live Mix – Emancipation Park Charlottesville, VA August 9, 2017

In late 2016 while out in the night doing R&D I had an occasional audience of people living out of doors.  I was asked to sometime maybe “map the park, where we are”.

I thought to do that sometime and ultimately it lead to a tough series of post postponements due to the “atmosphere” of the moment.   Ultimately the event was on August 9th, police on hand and not one single incident or unhappy person.

Simple colorful shapes and geometry were mixed for an hour, mapped to the statue with background projections inspiring the trees. All of this mixed in real time to DJ Gon’s (RVA) mix:

A fun time with a lot of people enjoying a night in the park.  Imagine that.

Projection mapping, also known as video mapping and spatial augmented reality, is a projection technology used to turn objects, often irregularly shaped, into a display surface for video projection. These objects may be complex industrial landscapes, such as buildings, small indoor objects or theatrical stages. By using specialized software, a two- or three-dimensional object is spatially mapped on the virtual program which mimics the real environment it is to be projected on. | Wikipedia
